YOUNG BLACK ACTOR NEEDED (article first published : 2002-06-7)

The director and producers of one of the much anticipated highlights of this year's NOT Festival, a new musical called Leopard Skin, still have one part to cast - that of a teenage black or coloured boy.

The young actor needs to be able to act really well, and to sing. He needs to look about 16 or 17 years of age. The cast is already well into their rehearsal process, so he would need to rehearse afternoons and evenings. This is a professional production, so he will be paid for his work. Contact Aldo Brincat on 082 823-1602 soonest.

The sixth NOT the Grahamstown Festival - the annual theatre showcase previewing the latest in innovative performing arts - will be held at Durban High School in St Thomas Road on Durban's Berea from June 20 to 23.

Leopard Skin is an original musical which tells a gentle story about ordinary South Africans grappling with issues of identity, belonging, purpose and love. Told with humour, honesty and respect and featuring the combined acting talents of Shannon Kenny, Patrick Kenny, Derek O'Toole, Stacey Taylor and Nondumiso Tembe, the production features original music presented by Melvin Peters, Alan Judd and Alan Bowen. Script and direction is by Aldo Brincat, music by Alan Judd, music industry veteran Mike Pilot and entrepreneur and businessman Terry Rosenberg.

Performances of Leopard Skin take place on June 20 and 22 at 21h00 and on June 23 at 17h00.

Book through Computicket in advance, credit card bookings on 011 340-8000 or 083 915-8000. Tickets can also be bought at the school prior to the performances.
