QUEEN - THE CONCERT (article first published : 2002-05-17)

Presented in association with East Coast Radio 94/95FM, the KZN Philharmonic will present three performances of Queen - The Concert in the Playhouse Opera on May 18 at 19h30 and May 19 at 14h30 and 18h30.

Conducted by Michael Hankinson, a block-buster programme of all-time hits by the phenomenal British rock group Queen will be performed by star vocalists Joseph Clark and Luciano Zuppa. Also heading the line-up will be leading electric guitarist Barry Thomson with a special guest appearance by soprano Linda Bukhosini in the smash hit Barcelona. This number was made famous in the '80s by the teaming of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury with the Spanish operatic diva, Montserrat Caballé.

"We are delighted to be associated with the presentation of this magnificent musical event," says East Coast Radio's Managing Director, Omar Essak. "There was no question that we would support Queen - The Concert. We rigorously research the musical tastes of our audience on a fairly regular basis and just a couple of years ago Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody was voted East Coast Radio's top song of the 20th century by our listeners. I suspect our audience will be thrilled that they can now experience the magic of Queen live at The Opera in the capable hands of the KZNPO."

The musical bill includes Death on Two Legs; Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon; Killer Queen; Under Pressure; Bicycle Race; Who Wants to Live Forever; Another One Bites the Dust; Don't Stop Me Now; The Millionaire Waltz; Don't Try So Hard, Innuendo; We will Rock You; Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy; Play the Game; Seaside Rendezvous; Love of My Life; Radio Ga Ga; You Take My Breath Away; Bohemian Rhapsody; God Save The Queen; We Are the Champions and Flash.

Advance booking is strongly advised for this concert retrospective, which recently played to standing ovations in Gauteng, featuring music from the all-time hit Queen at the Opera. Tickets range from R60 to R150. Book at Computicket on 011 340-8000/083 915-8000 or online at www.computicket.com.
