BRAVO CHINA (article first published : 2002-02-11)

Following the announcement that South African Pay - TV network M-Net has been selected by Chinese broadcasters, China Central Television (CCTV) and Shanghai Oriental TV as the co- production partner in Africa for Bravo China - South Africa, M-Net has secured some of the continents best talents for the show.

Appearing alongside some of China's top singers and dancers will be local superstar and 2001 SAMA Artist of The Year winner Mandoza who will appear alongside Watershed (who will perform with a full orchestra). Karma with Henry Ate will sing part of her song in Mandarin. The Kholwa Brothers will accompany Chinese pop star Ding Wei. Opera diva Sibongile Mngoma will perform with one of China's top opera stars Liao Changyong. Other artists will include: Big voice Jack, Rory Rootenburg, the African Footprint dancers and Burundian superstar Khadja Nin.

Not only will Bravo China assist in strengthening trade and tourism ties that have been put in place by President Thabo Mbeki's recent trip to Beijing but it will also provide the local performers with a strong platform to launch themselves into the massive Chinese market. The TV version of the show will be watched by an estimated 1 billion people across the globe, with the broadcast of the show in China taking place in late February and the African broadcast taking place in April 18 on M-Net.

After previous Bravo China events at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angles, The Millennium Dome in London, The Kremlin in Moscow and The Acropolis in Athens, being chosen as the fifth host is a great honour for South Africa. Bravo China- South Africa will take place at the Nelson Mandela Theatre at the Civic Theatre on February 17 at 18h00.
