RORY ROOTENBERG (article first published : 2002-01-23)

Much loved Rory Rootenberg, whose hit performances of Cadenza, Cadenza X-Trav and Cadenza Extra X-Trav have all been sell outs at Natal Witness Hilton Arts Festivals in recent years. He returns to Hilton College Theatre with his latest work which has been performed in Durban but is as yet unseen in Pietermaritzburg or the Midlands.

Reflections features Rory Rootenberg with pianist Dawid Boverhoff and is once again scripted and directed by Ian von Memerty. (See review in Music Archives)

Many times during the runs of the Cadenza shows, Rory was asked to "sing more"!! Now he does.

Reflections is a study of contrasts using the unique and highly acclaimed gifts of Rory who now holds no fewer than seven Vita Theatre Awards. The production shows how different languages and different music often say the same things. All this with Rory's usual humour, charm and thrilling dynamics. Covering the music from Jaques Brel through to Dvorak, from Jewish traditional songs to Abba, this is a delightful, entertaining musical journey with Rory, whose infectious stage personality and vocal range has garnered such press reaction as "vocal tour de force" (Paul Boekkooi, The Star).

Reflections will have one performance only at Hilton College Theatre on January 31 at 20h00. Tickets R45. To book call Doreen on 033 343-0126.

Rory Rootenberg and Dawid Boverhoff will also be performing Reflections at the Rhumbelow Shellhole on February 1 and 2 at 19h00 for 19h30 and February 3 at 17h00 for 17h30. To book contact Roland Stansell on 031 205-7602 (h) or 082 499-8636 or email: roland@stansell.za.net
