MADONNA LIVE (article first published : 2001-12-29)

M-Net treats its subscribers to Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour on January 1 at 15h00.

This two-hour special is part of the queen of pop and rock & roll's first tour in eight years and will be screened exclusively on M-Net. The exclusive concert will be presented from The Palace of Auburn Hills in her hometown of Detroit before a standing-room only crowd of more than 17,000.

One of Madonna's first specials, Madonna Live, in 1990 premiered to record numbers and remains one of the highest-rated original programmes in history. The Drowned World Tour is expected to add more to her history-making list. Being one of the most influential artists of the last two decades, the Grammy Award winning star has sold more than 110 million albums worldwide with ten number 1 hits in the States. Her current album Music entered at No.1 on the Billboard charts as well as in 22 other countries, and has sold more than 10 million copies internationally.

Not only is she a pop star, Madonna is a multitalented woman with a list of blockbuster movies to her accreditation. As an actress she has starred in films such as Dick Tracy and Oscar nominated Evita for which she won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.

Produced by Marty Callener, whose previous credits include NSYNC's summer special, and directed by Hamish Hamilton, Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour is marked to be one of the best-ever concerts to be performed by the artist. It's a definite not-to-miss show promising to be worthy of putting all aside for a date with M-Net and a rock-pop concert of the year.
