FOM DROPS STUDENT TICKET PRICE (article first published : 2001-11-30)

Friends of Music has announced that it has dropped the ticket price to R5 for students for their next concert titled KZN Rising Stars on December 4.

This concert will feature no less than 11 youngsters – the youngest being 15 and the oldest 19. The reduced ticket price will allow friends and classmates to see their fellow students in a different light on a prestigious concert platform.

The programme promises to be wide-ranging and interesting. The two Pillay sisters Keshree and Meruschka will play piano duos from Handel and Debussy and the Solomon twins from Pietermaritzburg - Marina and David – will perform on the harp and trombone respectively.

Two sopranos - Ronette Bodenstein and Sarah Brandon – sing music from Puccini to Lloyd Webber and two more pianists come in the form of Claire Wright and Chen-Ming Wang. Completing the programme are flautist Madeleine Shama and two violinists Sarah Pudifin and Bruce Williams.

All the performers are pupils of members of the South African Society of Music Teachers and the standard is expected to be very high. Don’t miss this chance of seeing the top names of tomorrow!

The concert takes place on December 4 at 19h45 in the Durban Jewish Club and will feature the isicathamiya group Durban Black Drifters led by Chris Ntuli who will launch next year’s FOM exciting Prelude Performers project . Booking is at Computicket. The venue has plenty of safe parking and there is a cash bar available.

A shortened version of the concert will be held at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday at 13h00.
