DURBAN ARTS LUNCH MUSIC (article first published : 2001-10-20)

Funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the Durban Arts City Hall Steps free concert programme takes place between 12h45 and 14h00 on Wednesdays.

The next concert on October 24 features Sonny Pretorius as the curtain raiser. This talented saxophonist has played with different bands for the past 16 years but now performs as a one man-band. He plays a range of styles such as jazz, fusion and rock n roll.

The main attraction will be Its Up To You, six young artists from KwaMashu who preach through their African and American Gospel music. Leader Siyabonga Ngema founded the group with Sphiwe Biyela in February 1998 and members include Zakhe Dlongolo (piano), Thami Shabalala (keyboard) and vocalists Mdu Luthuli and Sbusiso Majola. They have performed in gospel competitions in Durban and gospel concerts in Johannesburg.

More details on the concert programme from Patrick Big Boy Zungu on (031) 312-1236.
