SWOONERS AND CROONERS (article first published : 2001-09-21)

The hilarious theatrical trio - Gary McKenzie, Grant Bell and John Didlick known as the Gee Jays - are back by popular demand with their entertaining and amusing production Swooners and Crooners.

Presenting humour they describe as “above the belt” and never intended to offend, the incorrigible trio move into a more sophisticated mood to take audiences on a sentimental journey back in time. The show has previously been presented at the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea but in its new season at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, Swooners and Crooners will be grander and more gracious when the performers appear on a specially-created glitzy set.

The talented trio takes its audience on a trip down memory lane and back again with much-loved songs from such great artists like Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, The Platters and more. The journey travels through the eras of Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Barry Manilow, Lionel Ritchie, Wet Wet Wet and Boyzone, to name but a few.

Some of the memorable numbers featured are: Paper Moon, That’s Life, O Wonderful World, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime, Cracklin Rose, I left my heart in San Francisco, Just the Way You are, Three Times a Lady, Let it Be, I Write the Song, which all go to make a nostalgic evening’s entertainment not to be forgotten

Swooners and Crooners runs from October 2 to 21. Booking is through Computicket, credit card bookings on (011) 340-8000 or 083 915-8000.
