ISICATHAMIYA COMPETITION (article first published : 2001-07-23)

The Caltex Isicathamiya High School Choir competition will be held at the BAT Centre on August 17, 2001.

Over 40 choirs will be competing for big prizes, with the top three winners receiving R1,000, R500 and R250 respectively and ten consolation prizes of R100 each.

The competition is a follow-up of two previous successful events held last year in the same venue and hosted by Chris Ntuli of the well-known isicathamiya group Durban Black Drifters. “The competitions have arisen from our isicathamiya schools workshop project which has taken us to over 500 schools in the urban and rural areas of KZN,” says Chris Ntuli.

The event is sponsored by Caltex, which sponsored Durban Black Drifters in their early days in 1995, and managed by DBD Entertainment – a company which was established by the innovative Durban Black Drifters to promote and distribute music early this year.

Any school still wishing to take part in the competition should contact Chris Ntuli immediately on 083 306-8846.
