PLATFORM JAZZ AT DBG (article first published : 2008-09-9)

Following two recent successful concerts on the South Coast, Platform Jazz brings a fun kaleidoscope of jazz pieces to the Botanic Gardens on September 21.

Their programme includes early Dixie styles such as Sweet Georgia Brown and moves through to popular Latin favourites including Sway and Quando Quando. The line-up includes Cathy Peacock on trumpet, Ian Holloway in clarinet, Tony Boorer on trombone, Andreas Kappen on double bass, Vicky Goddard on sax, Grant Emmerich on drums and Calli Thomson on keyboards.

The two-hour jazz concert will take place at the Amphitheatre "Under The Fig Tree" from 14h00 to 16h00.Until now the relatively new amphitheatre has been associated with fun theatrical productions. This is a new venture and venue in terms of music in the gardens and will be a fairly intimate setting. There is seating for about 300 people.

The Amphitheatre is located above the tea garden so make it an outing with lunch or teas and scones there first! Alternately, patrons may bring limited beverages and snacks to the concert and chill for the afternoon.

Tickets R50 (R35 pensioners and children under 12) available at the gate only. Ticket sales start at 12h30. For more information please contact Cathy Peacock on 031 266 3812 or 082 349 8362.
