ROYAL REFURBISHMENT (article first published : 2003-08-18)

Durbanís Royal Hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment programme throughout the entire hotel. Management promises that visitors will be impressed with the upgraded and improved hotel, which includes better and new facilities and unequalled levels of customer service.

The Top of The Royal reopened on August 14 as a brand new 120-seater functions room, breakfast and, Sunday lunch restaurant, following a complete refurbishment to one of Durban's well-loved dining venues. As an opening special the Top of The Royal will be offering a Sunday lunch buffet at R125 pp inclusive of live entertainment. Popular cabaret artist Melanie Roberts accompanied by Chantal Saunders, Jerry Kunene and Pilani Ngidi will entertain dinners every Sunday lunch from August 17 to September 1.

For overnight guests, one of the privileges of staying at The Royal, is the opportunity to breakfast in this magnificent venue, offering one of Durbanís most outstanding views. The venue has been completely redesigned in order to seat more guests. The decor follows an elegant, nautical theme to compliment the restaurantís spectacular outlook over Durban Harbour. The colours used are Wedgwood blue and ivory with natural timbers.

The refurbishment of the Top of The Royal is the start of an upgrading program incorporating the entire hotel. Once the Top of The Royal is complete, the decorating team will work down the hotel with bedrooms next on the list.

"The improvements are being made to entrench The Royal as one of the foremost hotels in Africa, and to ensure that our customers keep coming back," explained Saul Basckin, the Royal Hotelís General Manager.

Bookings for the re-opening special at the Top of The Royal are essential on 031 333 6000.
