PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN (article first published : 2003-07-20)

Following the success of last year's inaugural Proudly South African Day held on September 23, the organisation will host a week-long celebration to foster increased participation and inclusiveness during 2003. This year's Proudly South African Week will be celebrated from September 21 to 28.

Proudly South African was borne from the 1998 Presidential Jobs Summit where Government, Business, Labour and Community agreed to a 'Buy South African' campaign. The Section 21 company was launched in October 2001 with a mandate to promote job creation by stimulating demand for, and enhancing the reputation and sales of approved South African products and services locally and internationally.

Proudly South African chairperson, Tim Modise and his team have been instrumental in the campaign's development and success. Since its inception, Proudly South African has grown in stature, with a membership list which includes sectors ranging from the mining industry to the retail sector to the film, television, radio and music markets.

Just to highlight a few of Proudly South African's achievements: the 1000th member was recently enlisted; in a recent survey, 54% of South Africans had seen the Proudly South African brand, 85% supported the campaign and more than 80% believe that the Proudly South African logo is a mark of a quality product; and several members now display the Proudly South African logo on their products.
