WANTED A LIVING WAGE (article first published : 2003-03-9)

In March and April, the Kwa Muhle Museum at 130 Ordnance Road will host an exhibition titled Wanted A Living Wage.

In 1973 “The Durban Strikes” pronounced a new era in the ongoing confrontation with South Africa’s ruling political and economic minority. Motivated by material need and underpinned by principles of democracy and equality, the strikes conjoined academics, workers and political leaders, among others, in a struggle that was to re-define the South African political landscape in consequent decades.
