FINE CUISINE AT BALLITO MANOR (article first published : 2002-11-17)

The menus at Ballito Manor on the Dolphin Coast offer delectable cuisine prepared by an internationally acclaimed and highly experienced chef. The restaurant and terrace offer stunning sea views and can seat up to 60 guests. It is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as high tea, seven days a week

Head chef, Adam Seviour, has worked at establishments such as London's Ritz and Raddison hotels, Dublin's Shelbourne, hotels in Hong Kong, New Zealand as well as through out Europe. Now he designs modern and unique meals for guests of this newly opened mansion.

The dinner menu caters for all tastes, allowing guests to choose either an la carte or a two or three-course set menu. The starter selection offers various juicy salads, and items such as chicken and prawn coconut soup, and roast quail on cinnamon rosti. Main course options range from a breast of chicken or duck, a fine selection of seafood including crayfish, prawns and calamari, and a choice of red meat dishes. For a sweet ending there is a delicious roast pineapple infused with vanilla syrup or just a lovely lemon tart. All starters are R30, main courses R70 and dessert R25.

The breakfast menu has a cold and hot selection. The cold selection includes a fresh fruit plate or a choice of pastries. The chef has designed a selection of special breakfasts for guests' enjoyment on the hot breakfast selection. The American Dream includes eggs and a beef steaklet or you can settle for the more conventional English breakfast. For something nutritious, the Ballito Manor Health has poached eggs on braised spinach in baked-brown mushrooms with grilled tomato.

There are also a diverse number of lunch options including various salads. For something fishy, there is the pickled calamari salad or you may choose the seafood grill. Another salad offered is the Cajun chicken salad, which has chicken breasts added with Cajun spice. If you favour fillet beef, then the Simply steak and chips will go down well. These meals range from R27 to R95.

The cuisine complements the beautiful surroundings and luxurious feel of this hotel overlooking the golden beaches of the KZN Dolphin Coast.

Bookings are essential through 032 946 3290.
