HOTEL SCHOOL STUDENTS ON DISPLAY (article first published : 2002-10-11)

Students of The International Hotel School are set to impress the public and selected guests once again at their year-end chefs table and exhibitions which take place at The Royal Hotel and Durban Exhibition Centre on October 11 and 12.

On Friday (October 11), second year chef students will prepare and serve a three-course meal to invited high profile critics including the chefs of some of Durban's leading restaurants. On Saturday (October 12), first and second year students will put together a spectacular array of exhibition stands and present them to a panel of judges and members of the public.

The first year exhibitions will depict different cuisines of the world including details such as music, costumes and sample tasting. The topic for second year students is Facilities Management whereby students research, plan and create an exhibition based on a department of a hotel.

The judges who represent prominent members of the hospitality industry and various related fields will crit the stands according to set criteria.

These exercises form part of the practical component for the students' year-end examinations for the Hospitality Business Management Diploma and the Culinary Management Diploma. The three-year courses turn out professional young people with internationally recognised qualifications in the hospitality industry.

The exhibitions will be held at the Durban Exhibition Centre on October 12 from 10h00 to 14h00. Members of the public, scholars interested in a career in the hotel industry, and existing members of the industry are invited to attend. Entrance R5 (R2 children and scholars).

More information from Thigam Nathoo at the International Hotel School on 031 360-9313.
