FLUX FESTIVAL (article first published : 2002-09-15)

The Flux Festival is back this year taking place from December 30 to January 1 and it’s all on for the biggest New Year party around! Set in a spectacular valley on the Mooi River in the scenic KZN Midlands, the festival is set to become the place to be for New Year celebration.

Now in its second year, the three-day programme is morphing from a musical experience into a unique event that is attracting interest both here and internationally. Apart from a remarkable line-up of cutting-edge live acts and DJ’s at the New Year’s party, the festival is also expanding to include a number of exciting attractions.

From a first ever on-site Wave House standing wave in the Mooi River to skate, BMX and dirtboard ramps, the activities on offer are designed to excite even the most jaded partygoers. Extreme events, sponsored by Red Bull and administered by 180° Adventure, will include a 4 x 4 trail, white water rafting, rock climbing, abseiling and mountain biking.

One Live and three Dance marquees set the tone for serious partying, while a unique outdoor 'barn cinema' will show classics and art movies. The organisers of Flux have convened what they term a ‘Creative Arts Assembly’ involving Tattoo, Piercing, Juggling and Fire Performance along with a marketplace of food, clothing stalls, esoterica, cutting-edge art and local crafts which will fuel the vibe.

In the spirit of New Year’s parties in years gone by, the Flux team is intent on drawing thousands of people to one area for the 'mother of all New Year’s parties'. With ample amenities - hot showers, clean flush toilets and extensive camping areas quite unrivalled by any other site - the venue is capable of hosting up to 7,500 people. Tickets are limited, however, so buy early.

Watch out for what is certain to be a spectacular line-up. Expect the cream of South African music, from reggae to hip-hop and punk to trance, as Flux showcases a cross-section of SA’s finest emerging and established acts. Surprise guest artists from abroad will be announced in the course of the year.

Look out for Flux promo gigs in Durban, Cape Town and Gauteng from September onwards, or catch the promo posse at Oppikoppi, Woodstock, Awesome Africa and the year-end Eclipse Festival. Cyber experience at www.fluxfestival.co.za

Tickets on sale from September 16 at R190, increases of R20 a month, available at Computicket, Cool Runnings and selected venues nationwide. More details from William Charlton-Perkins or Clinton Marius on O31 201-3739 or 082 573-3704.
