ARTSLINK (article first published : 2002-07-16)

Since 1997 Artslink.co.za has posted more than 7,350 stories with valuable, timely, targeted news and market information on South African arts, culture and entertainment at little or no cost to its readers.

“It's been a big job,” says Artslink’s TJ, “ and, as they say, the numbers don't lie - thousands of people around the world read Artslink.co.za every day - and for good reason. Artslink.co.za also plays host to the largest SA arts industry on-line database to date.

“As most people are aware, the idea of everything for free on the Internet didn't quite pan out. So - while diligently working to continually improve our services (for example look out for the Artslink.co.za ticketing solution, coming soon) - we've also been developing plans to take Artslink.co.za to the next level.”

Soon Artslink.co.za will begin charging an obligatory subscription fee. In other words, asking a reasonable fee to access this valuable information resource. Subscribers can also choose to get Artslink.co.za's daily e-newsletter service delivered straight to their desk. As rates go up and newspapers increase their prices, keeping informed via e-mail is becoming more and more affordable.

“For less than the cost of an SMS a day you can continue to make Artslink.co.za part of your routine,” adds TJ.:

Brand yourself with an @artslink.co.za e-mail address at R150 for six months and you get a free Artslink.co.za subscription - www.at.artslink.co.za/isp

Support South African arts and culture, dial up with Artslink.co.za ISP from R115 per month and your Artslink.co.za subscription is included - www.at.artslink.co.za/isp Everyone is targeted to be paid-up users.

Registered publicists have access to (almost) all areas and no further subs required.

“Your news for publication will not be "blocked" either for even unsubscribed readers, but consider this: You pay to advertise in a newspaper, but still someone has to buy the newspaper to read the advert that you paid for place,” TJ explains. “This has no effect on the fact that you pay for publicity to be sent out to the media and audience via e-mail (for the latter - it may actually expand the database of users - to your advantage as a publicist).

“Consider that at our current rate of R2100/annum for publicity - one can only afford 3cm/col once-off in the print media per month! It's all very affordable for all parties concerned.”
