NBS HOUSE & GARDEN SHOW (article first published : 2002-06-9)

KZN's premier home and lifestyle showcase, The NBS House & Garden Show, which takes place from June 28 to July 7 at the Durban Exhibition Centre is set to offer the consumer the latest updates in interior and exterior living trends.

"The essence of good-living" is this year's theme - reflecting the trend to reconnect with oneself, the natural world, family and friends. The consumer is looking for companionable relaxation and entertainment - shopping is no longer a routine chore. It's fun and sociable. Likewise the NBS House & Garden Show invites the visitor to enjoy a retail experience packed with good value buys, lifestyle improvement ideas, as well as provide a pleasurable leisure option. Visitors whilst shopping, can relax at the Bean Bag Bohemia Restaurant at the show or have an alfresco cup of coffee at Café Pronto on the North Plaza. There will be other new food options like Eat Greek, Anat Falafel and the KZN African Tavern to tempt tastebuds.

With the emphasis on good value shopping, this year's show features interior inspirations with the garden as an essential 'room' of the home. There will also be a strong focus on easy, fun DIY solutions for inspired home enhancement. The latest hi-tech and electronic items for the home will always be on show to provide the consumer with an update on quick modern lifestyle convenience.

This year East Coast Radio jocks, Damon Beard and Daryl Ilbury lock hammers and drill bits in the Game DIY Duel. The jocks will attempt to make their own dining-room table and benches at the Show. Visitors can participate in a competition to win shopping vouchers worth R25 000 from Game by voting for the best DIY creation done by the two - either for Damon's Den or Daryl's Pad.

Other show highlights include live supper-club type entertainment sponsored by Rythmic Beat, the Entrepreneur Escape, hosting new ideas and ventures for the home environment and the Antiques Alley, promising fascinating treasures. Fantasy sugar artworks created by the SA Cake Decorators Guild will be on show again at the Huletts Sugarcraft Showcase

The ever-popular display by Durban's Parks Department will use bold colours, giving a fresh clean look. Old garden design and familiar materials will be mixed with the new for a rejuvenated look that captures the essence of this year's Show.

This year, BoE, of which NBS is a division, will launch Bond Choice at the Show. Bond Choice is a bond origination company with a difference in that it represents the interests of the home buyer and apart from sourcing the best bond product for the client, also offers life insurance and other benefits.

Once again capacity crowds are expected at the show, which has become synonymous with quality and great value, offering a wide range of items relating to the home lifestyle. With over 16,000 sq metres of retail space to explore - visitors to the NBS House & Garden Show can enjoy a ten-day retail experience.

Tickets R25 (R14 students, scholars and pensioners - with cards). Children under 12 are free. More information from Kagiso Exhibitions on 031 202-7622 (office hours).
