NAC ANNOUNCES NEW PANELISTS (article first published : 2002-05-17)

The National Arts Council has completed its first funding session for the year which saw the introduction of new Advisory Panelists. The organisation believes that with the injection of fresh energies, the new panelists will take the NAC to greater heights, not only in funding the arts but assisting in formulating and driving the NACís strategic vision of influencing the arts scene as well as arts policy.

Panel chairs who have gained invaluable experience over the last few years of setting up the funding mechanism will hand over the baton to incoming panelists for the funding sessions during 2002.

The advisory panelists are as follows: (* denotes chairperson)

Theatre: Pieter Toerien* and Dudley Hopkins (Western Cape); Francois Venter and Germina Nkadibeng (Gauteng), V J Basson (Northern Cape) and Fiona Coyne (Western Cape)

Dance: Corinna Lowry*, Tebogo Kgobokae and Purdit Maharaj (Gauteng), Vusabanthu Ngema (Western Cape); Lynn Maree (KZN) and K Mongane (North West)

Music: Bongani Tembe* and Sipho Nzimande (KZN); Isaac Tlou (Mpumalanga); Michelle Constant (Gauteng); Dr Brenda Potgieter (Free State) and Hotep Galeta (Western Cape)

Visual Arts: Marilyn Martin* (Western Cape); A Sooful, Richard Baholo and Alette Voster (Gauteng), and Vusi Khumalo (Eastern Cape)

Literature: Lisa Combrinck*, Mawatle Mojarefa, Prof Gray and Raymond Rasele Koane (Gauteng); Monde Ngonyama (Eastern Cape); and Prof Mathenjwa (KZN)

Craft: Zakhe Ngqobe* and Tamar Mason (Gauteng); Tessa Graaf (Western Cape); Alice Netshidezvani (Limpopo Province) and Mofolo Mofokeng (Free State).
