CHARITY RAFFLE 2002 (article first published : 2002-03-19)

Following its impressive achievements in 2000, the Combined Service Clubs Charity Raffle is to be launched again this year. The Rotary Club of Durban, Round Table Durban South and Durban Central Lions Club have joined forces for the fourth time to raise substantial funds with a competition that encourages every local charity, educational institution and service club to participate. Their motto "together we serve" reaffirms the aim of this Raffle - to serve the community in a practical way.

The British Cultural & Heritage Association (KZN Branch of the 1820 Settlers Assn) is once again administering the Raffle and handling the distribution of tickets.

Members of the public can take advantage of this excellent opportunity to win great prizes while helping the many charities that are fighting to survive with reduced government subsidies. Tickets R5 each to the public, with a book of 20 tickets costing only R20 to charitable organisations.

Thus R4 of every ticket goes to the charity selling the ticket and the remaining R1 is split between the service clubs for their projects to any charity, school, church or service club wanting to boost their existing income.

The Raffle has received support from 25 sponsors for the prizes as well as from Mondi Papers for the paper, Fishwicks Printers for printing the tickets, Print & Image for printing the info sheets and Unicommercial Printers for printing the posters!

Any registered charity, educational institution or a service organisation may collect tickets any week day between 08h30 and 12h30 from the British Cultural & Heritage Association office at 124 Davenport Road, Glenwood, Durban. Please call first to order tickets on 031 202-6174 or fax 031 202-6228 or e-mail: bcha1820@global.co.za

The Grand Draw will take place at 10h30 on July 3 in the Luthuli Main Hall of the Durban City Hall (formerly the Jubilee Room). The results will be published in the Daily News on July 11. Among the prizes to be won are two SAA economy air tickets to any destination in Africa (including Mauritius), free holidays, electrical appliances, car hire, cash prizes and more.
