DUTCH LANGUAGE CHANNEL (article first published : 2002-01-24)

A special broadcast of the Royal wedding between Holland's crown prince Willem-Alexandra and Argentinian Maxima Zorreguieta will be the main highlight on DStv's latest addition to the bouquet, BVN-TV, which launches on-air on February 1. MultiChoice Africa, today announced the launch of Dutch language channel BVN-TV, available as part of the DStv bouquet (Channel 102) in the PAS 7 satellite territories (Southern Africa).

In recognition of the wedding taking place on February 2, DStv will open up a special feed to viewers in the rest of Africa (PAS 10 and W4 satellite territories) in a special BVN-TV broadcast for that day only. DStv subscribers on the African continent will therefore join viewers in South and North America, Europe and the Caribbean in witnessing what has been billed as the biggest event this year on the Dutch calendar.

BVN-TV offers Dutch language programming, free of commercials, to a global audience 24 hours a day, focusing mainly on news and current affairs, sports, documentaries, series, talk shows, children's programs and entertainment. BVN stands for “het Beste van Vlaanderen en Nederland” and reflects both Dutch and Flemish society.

More recently Multichoice Africa has included programming that is geared to cater for specific interest, language and cultural based needs – this has included the launch of the Portuguese and Indian bouquets. "We are consistently working towards enhancing our content on DStv and the inclusion of BVN will enhance viewing for the Dutch community in Southern Africa." says Nolo Letele, CEO of Multichoice Africa.
