EDMUND’S CENTRE (article first published : 2000-11-8)

Theatrical all-rounder Edmund Mhlongo’s has a goal of opening an arts and culture centre in KwaMashu.

He already has his field in KwaMashu, the dream will follow very shortly. His Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre (EMAC) is now off the drawing board and the construction is on track. K-Cap, or the KwaMashu Community Advancement Projects, is Mhlongo’s arts empowerment organisation for young people which he originally formed in 1993.

K-Cap has performed in the UK and Canada with much success.

Of late, K-Cap’s musical theatre arm, the Alive Kids Positive Arts, toured Mhlongo’s powerful new production The Spear is Born – Bayede Shaka (produced by popular Ukhozi FM D J Nat “Cool Cat” Gumbi), to the United Kingdom for six weeks, where the musical played at various festivals including the African Festival 2000.

The company has also been invited to Norway in December and back to the UK in June next year.
