100 STARS UNDER THE SEA (article first published : 2000-08-18)

The well-known starry roof of the ICC’s main performance venue is set to be overshadowed by a host of national and local stars in the annual gala variety show Night of 100 Stars on September 10. Held as a fundraiser for the Cancer Association of South Africa: KZN, this star-studded show has become a long-awaited event for KZN audiences.

Special guest will be Jeremy Maggs, the suave and ever-cool television presenter whose wit and charm has delighted viewers and made Who Wants to be a Millionaire? one of TV's hottest shows. CANSA is grateful to his producer at VideoVision for sponsoring his flight to Durban for the show.

Heading the line-up is comedian Mark Banks, making a return appearance in Durban after a two-year absence. Amor Vittone (singer and presenter of the Road to Riches lottery game show) and Duncan Royce (the award-winning Mercury Rising) also feature in the show and many more big name stars are expected to add to the glamour.

Alongside husband and wife duos Aaron McIlroy/Lisa Bobbert, Melanie Roberts/Philipp Maier and Linda Bukhosini/Bongani Tembe, Arnie Field and Clinton Philander perform an excerpt from their new show Solid Gold and the cast from Themi Venturas’s The Guitar that Rocked the World present extracts from the hit musical. Special presenters include various radio and media personalities and various styles of dance will come from The Pulse of Africa, the Shall We Dance dancers, Carol Cousin's ever-popular troupe of line-dancers and many more.

Last year's showstopper, the signing choir from the Fulton School for the Deaf, make their second appearance as do the all-girl act 'Strut', the Field Band Foundation and the Steel Drum Band Foundation. Top local band Strawberry Fields headed by the talented Dawn Thomson will be the backing band.

The show is devised and directed by Peter Court and Themi Venturas and the new theme – “Under the C” will be carried out in a kaleidoscope of scenes below and above the sea. The show offers dazzling sets, exciting audio-visual images and dramatic lighting effects.

Tickets for the Millennium Night of 100 Stars available at Computicket, at www.computicket.com or CANSA's offices on (031) 205-9525.
