SEA WORLD (article first published : 1999-05-23)

Sea World will celebrate World Environment Week from May 31 to June 4 by making available each day 100 complimentary tickets to the Aquarium and Dolphinarium to underprivileged persons from bona fide charity organisations.

“The oceans cover over 70%of the earth’s surface yet over the years the conservation community has given the sea very little attention,” says Sea World representative Vanessa Hefer. “ In fact, it has been said that the sea has an image problem – it is both a global commons free for anyone to use and exploit and a mysterious, alien world whose degradation is out of sight and out of mind.”

Seaworld is seeking to rectify this situation by offering the wider community the opportunity to learn about the marine world and its fragile resources. “We cannot expect people to conserve what they have never seen,” explains Vanessa. “Seaworld is aware of its responsibility to impart the conservation ethic to people from all walks of life.”

Tickets will be allocated on a first-come/first-served basis. Interested parties should contact the Sea World marketing department on (031) 337-3536 before May 28.
