5FM AND MTN CHIRP PARTIES (article first published : 2000-05-20)

The countrywide series of 5FM MTN "Chirp" Parties reaches Durban on May 27 when it will take place on May 27 at the Westridge Tennis Stadium. Youngsters between the ages of 12 and 17 will be entertained by top DJs DJ Paul and Spiro who will introduce funkster kings Sash Martinengo and Ian F. The latter will prove that their FNB Sama award was no fluke as they spin some songs from their second album, Taurus as well as the hottest 5FM tunes.

The show promises spectacular sound and lighting with industrial strobes and two powerful full-colour lasers. Paramount Productions will erect a massive active tower to house the DJ booth and there will be funky dancers. Three large video screens will be used for styling music videos as well as live footage of the DJs and crowd.

Dedications from partygoers to their friends will run frequently across the screens with an MTN Chirp Cellphone being given away to the writer of the funkiest dedication. Dedications can be sent SMS to 083-910-1500 or e-mailed direct to chirp@chirpparties.co.za. Major prizes are on offer for this first teen event backed by 5FM and MTN. Snacks, energy drinks and cool drinks will be on sale but alcohol will be strictly prohibited.

Doors open to the public at 18h30 and the fun will continue until midnight. Tickets booked through TicketWeb are R55pp (excl. booking fees) or R65 at the door.

NB: Concerned parents are assured that security is of paramount importance to the sponsors and organisers and no expense has been spared to ensure the safety in and around the venue. A full paramedic team will be on standby, there will be adult supervision throughout the evening and no pass outs will be given. Any queries should be directed to the organisers by e-mail at chirp@chirpparties.co.za or phone (011) 485-1002 ext 251 or (011)714-4905 or fax on (011)714-4937. More details on the dedicated website at www.chirpparties.co.za or phone the information line on 083 910 1500.
