CHILDREN’S VIP DAY 2008 (article first published : 2008-04-7)

Some 2,000 less-privileged children from in and around Durban will be treated to an interactive day of fun, treats, games and pampering in the company of sports stars and entertainment celebs as part of International Bank Vaults social responsibility programme with the Children’s VIP Day at the Durban Exhibition Centre on April 19.

The organisers are appealing to corporates, civic organisations, service providers, small businesses and individuals to come on board and lend their weight to this innovative event to add value to the Children’s VIP Day, but to also look at forming lasting partnerships with children’s organisations and homes.

“Assuming an educational stance, this year sponsors are called to provide educational orientated contributions in addition to the entertainment and other goodies,” said IBV CEO Ashok Sewnarain. “Contributions such as educational games and toys, stationery and textbooks, school clothing, tutoring and sponsorship are all welcome. The IBV Children’s VIP Day aims to facilitate long term impact on these vulnerable children.

“The children’s homes that have been invited help sustain and improve the quality of life of children less fortunate than ourselves,” Ashok adds. “While AIDS, crime, poverty and unemployment remain significant challenges for our country to overcome, these homes see these challenges as opportunities and catalysts for continued transformation. They contribute to individual child development, empowerment and capacity building,” he explained.

The 2008 event follows on last year’s inaugural Children’s VIP Day. The line-up offers fun and excitement for 2,000 teens and pre-teens as they get a chance to meet some of their heroes from the sports field, stage and screen; participate in games and challenges; paint, eat, play, sing and create to their heart’s content.

“This special day form part of the social responsibility initiative established by the International Bank Vaults with the primary aim being to spoil a large group of deserving children while at the same time raising the public awareness around prevalent social and health issues which have an adverse affect on the youth in our country and therefore the country itself,” explains IBV’s Chontal Moonsamy.

Should you want to participate in this event, contact Chontal Moonsamy at the International Bank Vaults at Gateway Theatre of Shopping or on 031 566 3984.
