SIPHOKAZI FOR SIBAYA (article first published : 2008-02-15)

SAMA-award winning artist Siphokazi performs in Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom’s quarterly jazz event in the Imbizo Room on March 20.

This South African singing sensation, who comfortably fuses soul, Afro-jazz and gospel in her music, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame. Her debut album Ubuntu Bam earned her five nominations (best newcomer, best album of the year, best female, best adult contemporary African album and best producer) and two wins (best newcomer and best adult contemporary African album) at the 2007 SAMA awards.

Siphokazi’s appreciation, understanding and mastery of ethnic melodies and harmonies are evident in her music. Her Afro-Soul album has also found a partner in ethnic or Mzansi rap with her collaboration with the popular hip-hop artist, Zuluboy, as they both passionately deliver strong and truly Afro-centric vocal punches in some of the songs.

An experienced performer, Siphokazi has graced many stages around the country singing in numerous music concerts and festivals as a backing vocalist and a featured soloist. She has performed with some of the country’s top artists such Tshepo Tsola, Ringo Madlingozi, Pat Matshikiza, Simphiwe Dana, Zamajobe, and Stimela.

Her performance takes place at 18h00 on March 20 in the Imbizo Room at Sibaya. Tickets R265 pp includes a three-course buffet meal, a bottle of KWV Brandy to share per table and welcome drinks. There are corporate table bookings at R3,180 which includes 12 tickets, welcome drinks, three-course buffet meal, a bottle of KWV Brandy per table to share and two Mangwanani Spa Foot Massage Vouchers per table.

Bookings can be made on 031 580 5555.
