VERITAS (article first published : 2007-03-8)

South Africa’s largest and oldest wine show, Veritas, will be held in Durban for the first time next week.

The Veritas Awards is the country’s oldest and most authoritative wine competition. A total of 128 wines that have won an award will be available for tasting at the head office of Deloitte at 2 Pencarrow Crescent, Pencarrow Park, La Lucia Ridge Office Estate, from 17h00 to 21h00 on March 14.

Thirty-six of these wines won double gold medals in 2006 and 92 won golds. Award-winning wines carry a special label as a guide to wine-lovers.

The accountancy firm Deloitte has become a sponsor of Veritas tastings for the liquor trade and the public around South Africa.

Bennie Howard, a well-known personality in the wine industry, is the vice-chairman of Veritas. He says Veritas has always wanted to explore the KZN market. “I believe there is a very important growing market for wine in this part of the country and we are highly excited about bringing a full complement of award-winning wines to Durban”.

Tickets for the tasting cost R80 per person. The fee includes a tasting glass, light finger snacks and a pocket-size Veritas results booklet. Award-winning South African cheeses will also be available for tasting. Tickets from Computicket or online at www.computicket.com

A selection of the best wines will be included in a gourmet dinner at the Lynton Hall restaurant at Pennington on March 15. Bookings on 039 975 3122.
