NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Durban’s uShaka Marine World turns up the heat on September 16 when it hosts the Sunflower Charity Day, a carnival of home-grown fashion, fun and music. To highlight the plight of leukaemia patients, who are in desperate need of bone marrow transplants, the Sunflower Fund hosts various fundraising events, including National Bandana Day on September 21. This year, uShaka shows its support for the cause by sponsoring a fashion show and music concert which will feature top names in the industry, including singing stars Jae, Melanie Lowe and Lauren Laing as well as designers Amanda Laird Cherry, Haroun Hansrot, Brenda Quin, Gideon, Karen Monk Klijnsra, Andre Martin, Paul Botha, Warren Morck and Kathrin Kidger. Besides creating unique garments using the Sunflower bandanas, the designers will present cutting-edge fashion ranges. This will be followed by a music concert featuring top South African performers and deejays. Tickets R100 with proceeds going to the Sunflower Fund. Only 600 tickets are being sold, so to secure a place contact Michelle from Rusco on 031 263 2169. For more details go to www.sunflowerfund.org.za Should you wish to become a bone marrow donor on September 16, please contact Stephanie Berry on 078 207 9041. The South African National Blood Services will set up a clinic in uShaka’s Arena 5 between 09h30 and 17h00.
