FNB CRAFT NOW 2006 (article first published : 2006-05-11)

FNB CRAFT Now 2006 Exhibition and Awards will be held at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban from July 20 to August 13, 2006.

First National Bank (FNB) has been a proud partner of the Craft Council of South Africa since 1995. Through this partnership, the "FNB CRAFT NOW" has become the most prestigious exhibition of its kind in South Africa, attracting the best craft from all sectors of the craft community, both individuals and groups.

The Craft Council invites new, exciting and innovative work that reflects a celebration of craft. This includes cutting edge, contemporary designer wares that show where South African craft is today.

Products must be made mainly by hand using traditional or contemporary skills and the quality of the workmanship must be very high. Products should have reference to South African culture, environment or social structure, thus creating an "African Style". The work must not have been previously exhibited.

Selection for the exhibition will be from photograph or e-mail photographs (not slides) and the work must be well photographed so the image can be seen clearly. The photographs, entry fees and forms must reach the CCSA on, or before, May 20, 2006.

No late entries will be accepted.

This year there is a new exciting addition to the FNB CRAFT NOW Exhibition. The sponsors, FNB will include a prestigious auction after the exhibition. The 20 best pieces, which will include the work of the prize winners, selected by the Award Judge will be sent up to Johannesburg for auction. A Merit Award Certificate will be given to craftspeople whose work is selected for the auction.

Entries close on May 20, 2006. Further information and application forms from the Craft Council of South Africa on 011 834 9569 or e-mail: eunicem@craftcouncil.co.za
