NAKED PART ONE (article first published : 2006-04-9)

“Come naked. Or not. Far preferable, perhaps, to put on your stylish party best when you come to Naked Part One with Peroni”, say the organisers of an event that takes place on April 28 at Durban’s celebrated restaurant and cocktail bar, Bean Bag Bohemia. The venue will become a stage for a dramatic evening of dance, fine dining, fashion and art.

Centred on a fresh, contemporary dance collaboration between Durban choreographers David Gouldie and Lliane Loots, Naked will explore the interaction of various art styles in an accessible, relaxed and innovative form.

The evening starts at 18h30 for 19h00 with a two-course meal conjured up by BBB’s celebrated chef Brendon Newport, complemented by new brand on the “designer” beer block, Peroni. Dinner guests will be entertained by intervention theatre, with poetry, fashion and music being the key elements.

While guests savour their Danish feta married with basil, chilli and lime, spicy seafood in pastry and a classic Italian lamb ragout, they can feast their eyes on art exhibitions – Currency, Coke Club and Musing Men - compiled by resident curator Tamlyn Martin.

After dinner, guests continue their adventure through the Naked car installation series where various visual artists will express their interpretation of the night’s risqué theme.

Then it’s on to St Mary’s Hall where guests will be seated in a surround for Loots’ and Gouldie’s dance work, which will feature dancers from Flatfoot Dance Company and Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company.

To add further intrigue, theatre personalities, Karen van Pletsen, Neil Coppen, Claire Mortimer, Belinda Henwood and Michael Gritten will make their debuts in a “risky dance collaborative”.

Fresh Durban fashion will be woven into the performance featuring the designs of style princess Roseanne Immerman.

For those who still have the stamina for more stimulation, the party moves back to BBB where an outdoor stage will host emerging Durban band Love Jones as well as a revival of 80s kitsch cabaret. Back in the elaborate Victorian confines of BBB, top deejays will keep the party going long into the night.

Tickets R150pp including the two-course meal. There will also be lucky draw prizes, including Peroni hampers, meals for two and a sexy night out at La Bordello. A limited number of tickets for the show only will be available at R80.

Bookings via Kerry between 08h00 and 17h00 on 031 309 6019 or email beanbag@worldonline.co.za

Artists who would like to create a car installation are invited to send written submissions to David Gouldie at davidgouldie@mweb.co.za by no later than April 17.
