CLUB COCA-COLA (article first published : 2006-03-4)

South Africa’s clubbers and partygoers will start to notice a decidedly fresh looking Coca-Cola presence at their favourite nightspots - at about the same time as their counterparts across the world.

The second edition of the CLUB Coca-Cola series (produced by Lobo of South America) will be available from March 2006 at selected nightspots in Johannesburg and Durban.

The CLUB Coca-Cola project is a groundbreaking innovation that will see the world’s young adults being introduced to a limited edition, contour shaped aluminium Coca-Cola Bottle, printed with designs from some of the world’s leading creative agencies. The designs are printed with UV ink – allowing them to glow under the right night lighting.

The functionality of the contoured, limited edition CLUB Coca-Cola bottles has been taken to the outer edges of global design by a team of five of the world's best design agencies, wittily tagged the M5 (Magnificent 5) by the soft drink brand.

The M5 consists of the Designers Republic (Europe); MK12 (North America); Lobo (South America); Caviar (Asia) and Rex & Tennant McKay (Africa). The common theme these designers were presented with for their creative development was – ‘Optimism’ and the creation of a better world – key to brand Coca-Cola’s identity.

The CLUB Coca-Cola project has already won several design and packaging awards, and will surely set the trajectory of design in the beverage sector for some time to come.
