GREAT MOSCOW CIRCUS (article first published : 2006-02-14)

The spectacular Great Moscow Circus will have one performance in Durban on March 24.

The Great Moscow Circus’s first tour of South Africa in 2005 was a huge success with more than 400,000 people seeing the show. It’s back with brand new acts, all-new artists, new thrills and new sensations in a two-hour spectacular that has no repeats from last year.

The world’s most-famous circus will introduce 75 brilliant circus stars and acts including the Popovs, a team of Russia’s finest gymnasts, as well as The Dalian Bicycle Troupe from China, the classic acrobatic circus duo The Curatola Brothers from Italy and the daring Daniel Dorio Death Cheaters.

The show introduces Russia’s young sensations, clowns Stanislav Kynazkov and Vasiliy Trifonov. Other thrills include the remarkable acrobats of the Ensemble Rubtsov, Trio Meshchanov and Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto, the gymnastic skill of Slava Lunin’s Chimes, not to mention Irina Markova and her gorgeous group of dogs. There’s also fearless high wire stars Laszlo and Olga Simet, musical eccentricity with The Hansen Brothers, mind-blowing juggling with Gulnara Safargalina and Friends and The Domshyns who use two swings – an unheard of risk until this five star troupe premiered their act in Moscow three years ago.

For the South African tour, the Great Moscow Circus Big Top has been updated with a new seating system angled higher to afford an even clearer view of the performance ring, new air-conditioning and over R3 million of new lights and sound.

The Great Moscow Circus’s tour to South Africa is being sponsored by the Southern Sun Group. SABC 2 is again a media partner.

The Great Moscow Circus will have one performance on March 24 at Suncoast Casino. Tickets range from R110 to R270 (R65 to R170 for children). Book at Computicket or call 083 915 8000 or book on line at www.computicket.com
