DURBAN THEATRE AWARDS 2004-2005 (article first published : 2005-10-20)

It is once again time to acknowledge and celebrate the theatre industry and community in Durban and to review the work which has been produced in our city over the past twelve months.

The number of categories has been increased and will now recognise poster design, till now previously ignored by awards systems but something which is a very essential tool in the marketing of productions.

Nominations will be posted in the press as soon as figures have been collated and verified.

Shows falling within the judging year include Drama Productions, Children’s Theatre, Music Reviews and Musical Theatre.

DRAMA PRODUCTIONS: Art, Black Mamba; Blacks Like Me; Boston Marriage; A Cookie in the Kitchen; Crazy for Loving You; Crimes of the Heart; Dawie’s Big Night In; Frank & Stein; Have You Seen Sandile; La Coco Roche; Macbeth; The Mutlix; Neon Anthems; New Millionaires & Old Cash Cows; No Excuse; One for the Road; Taken for a Song and To House.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE: Adventures of Jabulani Jo; The All New Summer Holidays Adventure of Brer Rabbit & Friends ; A Christmas Kerel; Cinderella; Long Long Ago; Moron … Than Off and Why Z?

MUSIC REVUE: Bach to Barbra; Bums & Roses; Life is a Cabaret; Love Actually and A Twist of Broadway.

MUSICAL THEATRE: Aladdin Trouble; California Dreaming; Messiah Musical; Nunsense; Talking Spirits and Waiting.

The Durban Theatre Awards evening is glamorous, exciting and provides a platform for those productions running over the festive season to present short excerpts. The Durban theatre-going public is invited to dress up to the nines and join the performing arts in celebrating of its vibrant theatre industry.

The Durban Theatre Awards take place at 19h30 on November 21 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Tickets R60 booked at Computicket.
