STRUIK CHRISTIAN BOOKS (article first published : 2005-10-15)

International Christian publisher Strang Communications is to consolidate its Southern African interests by appointing Struik Christian Books (SCB) as its exclusive representative in the region.

The agreement is only the second exclusive regional agreement Strang has entered into. It allows SCB to license, publish and distribute books by a number of popular Christian authors, several of whom appear on South Africa’s religious television channels.

SCB Managing Director Fiona Lee said the agreement, which followed a visit to South Africa by a member of Strang’s senior management in September, would result in wider and better distribution of books published under the various Strang imprints.

“I’m excited about the prospect of developing the Strang list in Southern Africa and extending the distribution to general bookstores and news agencies, which represent a growing channel for Christian books,” he says. “The exclusive agreement also means that we can launch better co-ordinated and more focussed marketing campaigns to promote the author brands that we will represent going forward.”

Steve Strang, president and CEO of Strang Communications, said he was very pleased with their new agreement with SCB. “We share a similar vision and mission, as well as a clear perspective on serving the market as a whole. Our International Group has grown more than 50 percent in the last two years. I’m confident that our new relationship with SCB will be key in this area’s continual growth.”

Tessie DeVore, vice president of Strang’s International Division, said Struik’s name was synonymous with excellence. “They are well respected in Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. We look forward to a long, successful working relationship with them,” DeVore said.

Struik Christian Books is a division of New Holland Publishing, which forms part of South African media giant Johnnic Communications.
