EVITA’S ROAD! (article first published : 2005-09-5)

The Swartland Municipality have decided to officially rename the Darling/Moorreesburg Pad (R307) the Evita Bezuidenhout Boulevard. The official unveiling of this monumental tribute to the most famous white woman in South Africa and First Tannie of Darling will take place on September 24 at 11h00.

Mrs Bezuidenhout will oversee the unveiling of the street sign proudly carrying her name. The procession, led by the Moravian Crusaders Band and local dancers and followed by a rumble of vintage cars, will follow the new Boulevard through the leafy surrounds of the former coloured township of Greenville, now known as Darling East and Darling North.

“Mrs Bezuidenhout is very thrilled to be so honoured,” says her alto ego, Pieter-Dirk Uys. “She will celebrate her 70th birthday on September 28. Tannie Evita has been associated with Evita se Perron for the last nine years and can be seen every weekend on the small stage, entertaining and celebrating the democracy that allows so much to so many at the expense of so few.:

Pieter-Dirk Uys, who turns 60 on 28th September, will present a week of shows at Evita se Perron as a birthday present to his supporters and fans. His one-man shows will be performed in the early evening so that visitors to the wild flowers will be able to enjoy the shows as well.

They are Dekaffirnated (September 12 at 19h00); The End is Naai (September 13 at 19h00); Foreign Aids (September 14 at 19h00); An Audience with Evita (September 15 at 19h00); Ouma Ossewania Praat Vuil (September 16 at 18h00); Tannie Evita Praat Kaktus (September 17 at 18h00) and Icons and Aikonas (September 18 at 18h00).

Booking for the shows is essential through Beryl at 022 492 2831 or bookings@evita.co.za

On September 25 at 15h30, Pieter-Dirk Uys's new book Between the Devil and the Deep will be officially launched at Evita se Perron. It is published by Zebra/Struik
