WAR COMMEMORATION EVENING (article first published : 1999-10-15)

Veteran theatre and radio personality Brian O'Shaughnessy, currently appearing in the Breaker Morant drama A Time to Die at the KwaSuka Theatre in Greyville, will compere an evening of music and dance looking back 100 years. This will be staged at the Durban City Hall on October 19 at 19h00 as part of the commemorations of the Anglo Boer War centenary.

The programme promises to be highly entertaining and is suitable for the whole family. It is devised and directed by Elaine Jennings with Joy Paverd the music director and Viv Mangan in charge of period costumes. Ferdi van der Ahee leads a choir from Pinetown Boys High. Elaine and Ferdi van der Ahee will be joined by Mim Erasmus. Jill Howes, Derek Pearce, Joan Brevario, Desiree Peter, Warwick Fisher and "The Revellers".in a line up of parlour songs, old time music hall numbers, a tavern scene and minstrel songs. Marie Visagie will perform the Afrikaans segments of the production. The NMR Band will play, there will be two traditional Indian dance pieces and the Hlanganani Traditional Orchestra will present their special blend of music and dance.
