HOUSE AND GARDEN SHOW (article first published : 2005-07-3)

The East Coast Radio House and Garden Show opened at the Durban Exhibition Centre on July 1. Bigger, bolder and better than it's ever been, the East Coast's top home and lifestyle event is brimming with entertainment and shopping opportunities for everyone, and runs until July 10.

The stylish and ultra-modern new Russell Hobbs toaster is the centrepiece of the Popping Good theme in celebration of the innovation and creativity that is associated with this hugely popular family event, and exhibitors are having fun running with this whacky theme.

Top of the pops is an eye-catching exhibition of works of art that incorporate the must-have mega-toaster. These zany artworks by a team of talented artists from artSPACE durban Gallery are bound to astound. Show-goers are invited to vote for Durban's No. 1 Pop-Up, and the winning artist will receive a whopping R5,000, while East Coast Radio will auction the 'toaster art' and donate the proceeds to its Winter Warmth Campaign.

Over 300 exhibitors are gearing to unleash the very latest in home and outdoor trends. From nursery delights for expectant mums and tiny tots, hi-tech state-of-the-art gadgets for dads, toys for boys, trendy decor and accessories for home designers, furniture, kitchenware, paints, garden equipment, plants, water features, statues and benches, and scores of products for DIY enthusiasts, the show will be a 'popping good' ten days of shopping fun.

Other major attractions will include: personal appearances by 'giggling gourmet' celebrity chef Jenny Morris, as well as other cooking action; beach and surfwear fashion shows presented by Rythmic Beat, live music, big-screen sport coverage and a major Estate Living Expo by Wakefields.

And when all the excitement has worked up appetites, showgoers can enjoy food by Bean Bag Bohemia, Encore Caterers, or outside at Al Fresco. Or a cup of coffee at Toastway Café.

East Coast Radio's partnership with KZN's popular House and Garden Show is in line with the station's ongoing commitment to promote the East Coast region. A specially built studio at the show will give on site coverage to 2.1 million listeners, while the Buyer's Guide on the ECR website will promote some of the great Show Specials.

For an unbeatable entertainment package of shopping and sampling the latest home and garden trends, or simply enjoying a fun day with the family, don't miss this year's East Coast Radio House and Garden Show. Tickets R35 (R20 students, scholars and senior citizens). Children under 12 free.
