HOUSE & GARDEN SHOW 2005 (article first published : 2005-05-31)

From July 1 to 10 in the Durban Exhibition Centre, the East Coast Radio House & Garden Show offers the latest in lifestyle ideas, as more than 350 exhibitors showcase the most up-to-date home and outdoor items.

Taking centre-stage as the 2005 show’s icon is the ultimate and stylish Russell Hobbs toaster. It represents this year’s show theme of Popping Good, an indication of the many ideas and items that will “pop” out at you at the Show, inspiring you to improve and add to your lifestyle.

A novel competition in line with this theme has been sponsored inviting talented visual artists via the artSPACE Durban Gallery, to create works of art with the must-have Russell Hobbs mega-toaster as a base. Showgoers can then vote for “Durban’s No. 1 Pop-Up” Toaster Art when these novel artworks are exhibited at the show. East Coast Radio will auction these toaster artworks at the Show and the proceeds will go towards the Winter Warmth Campaign.

Heading the line-up of major attractions this year is celebrity chef Jenny Morris, aka The Giggling Gourmet and author of Rude Food, Nude Food, Good Food. Jenny is one of SA’s most-loved food personalities and her TV Show is a must-see for al home entertainment enthusiasts. Jenny “giggling gourmet” Morris will add sparkle and fun with her interactive cooking at the show’s Cook’s Playground.

East Coast Radio’s partnership with KZN’s successful House and Garden Show is in line with the station’s ongoing commitment to promote the East Coast. A specially built studio will be constructed at the show to provide on site coverage to 2.1 million listeners and the Buyer's Guide on the ECR website will promote the Show Specials. The popular East Coast Radio DJs will be making appearances at the Show and Damon and Mags will be there for their weekday broadcasts of the Rush Hour Ride.

Another star attraction will be a spectacular garden display by eThekwini Parks Department, the team responsible for eThekwini’s public garden facilities. They have become a firm favourite with showgoers for their amazing show creations.

Other core contributors to this year’s show buzz are Rythmic Beat who are set to stage branded leisurewear fashion shows and Wakefields Estate Living Expo with more lifestyle estate developments on offer in their newly renovated state-of-the art hall. Show-goers will also be treated to good food options prepared by Bean Bag Bohemia and Encore Caterers. A PLAY Cocktail Bar to chill out is a new addition and sport addicts are catered for at the Action Bar with total sports coverage during the Show.

More than 100,000 people visited this ten-day retail experience last year, and this year the show organisers are set to stage another exciting up-to-date lifestyle shopping Show.

The East Coast Radio House & Garden Show runs at the Durban Exhibition Centre from July 1 to 10. Tickets R35 (R20 students, scholars and senior citizens). Children under 12 free. More information from Kagiso Exhibitions on 031 368 7630 or visit www.housegardenshow.co.za
