ANNE WILLIAMS TO PRODUCE AWARDS (article first published : 2005-05-22)

This year South Africans can look forward to another unforgettable awards ceremony for the Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Woman of the Year, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on July 28, under the auspices of celebrated radio and TV personality, director and producer, Anne Williams.

The national announcement of the winners will be the highlight of celebrations to mark National Women’s Day on August 9 with the broadcast of a television programme at 21h00 on SABC2 and a re-broadcast on August 13 at 10h00.

In 2003, this well-known SAfm radio broadcaster produced the Shoprite Checkers/SABC 2 Woman of the Year Award to great acclaim. With 30 years’ experience in broadcasting, Anne Williams’ career stretches from early SABC test transmissions to worldwide live broadcasts.

She is the recipient of two Artes Awards, two Star Tonight Awards, an NTVA Award and nine other award nominations. From being one of the country’s first continuity presenters and enjoying a role as assistant director on shows such as Popshop, today Anne is the director responsible for numerous successful heavyweight television shows.

She has produced Miss World and Miss SA beauty pageants, Community Builder Awards, the All Africa Games and A Night to Remember (for Queen Elizabeth II). Also on her accomplished track record are the South Africa 2000 Millennium 8-hour live international broadcast, the United Nations Conference for Trade & Development, the Opening Ceremony of the Cricket World Cup, the World Summit Opening, Paul Simon Live, Jean Michel Jarre at Sun City and AIDA at Loftus Versfeld.

The Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Woman of the Year Award finds and pays tribute to woman achievers who contribute to their communities and society, and serve as role models and an inspiration to millions. According to Anne, owner of Anne Williams Productions, “I am delighted to once again become involved with the favourite and most prestigious award in the country, and look forward to working alongside the impressive team of high profile panellists and finalists during this year’s award.“

The Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Woman of the Year Award has captured a unique place in the hearts and minds of South Africans. To find out more, visit www.sawoman.co.za
