CRACK UP AT KRAKATOA (article first published : 2005-03-15)

Barry Hilton, South Africa’s best-loved “cousin” and the laidback barman in the Savanna unplugged advert, will be cracking them up at Krakatoa at Sibaya on March 23.

Possibly one of country’s most sought after comedians, Barry performed some 75 sold-out solo shows, Laughter to the People last year, performing to over 350,000 people.

Barry has enjoyed both local and international success and his shows play to capacity crowds wherever he goes. He recently took Laughter to The People on tour to Europe, following on the success of his two different sold-out seasons in London in 2001. He was again a sell-out in England, France, Wales, The Channel Islands, Holland and Ireland appearing in 23 shows in 26 days.

Amongst the most notable achievements on this European tour was that he was the first South African to perform at the prestigious London Comedy Club, The Comedy Store.

He has featured on South African television in two different comedy series: Funny Business and Funny you should say that, which was broadcast in prime viewing time on SABC last year.

Barry has released two live comedy videos and three different comedy compact discs, which have all sold extremely well: "Live and Switched On and Here We Go Again (which has sold in excess of 40,000 copies).

For his Sibaya performance, Barry will be joined by Durban’s highly popular Blarney Brothers who will perform a set before and after his show. The Sharks rugby team are special guests. Doors open at 20h30 and, of course, Savannah will be there in full force!

Tickets R80 booked through 031 580 5555 (office hours).
