PINK ON 31 AT 1-ON-1 (article first published : 2004-12-26)

Durban’s Three Cities Hospitality Group is planning a unique New Years Eve extravaganza aimed at enhancing the city’s reputation as a gay-friendly holiday destination.

Catering solely for gay and lesbian couples, the New Years Eve Pink Party will take place at the new 1-on-1 Gateway conference and events facility at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping. The R250 ticket per person includes welcome drinks, dinner, champagne at midnight, entertainment and the best seats in the house to Gateway’s spectacular fireworks display.

The event is being marketed to the local as well as the national gay community with offers of fly and drive-in packages.

Alan Vels, Managing Director of the Durban-based Three Cities Group says there has been a huge response to the party. “As a member of the hospitality industry and as South Africa’s fourth largest hospitality company, we are constantly on the look out for opportunities to grow the number of visitors to Durban and KwaZulu-Natal. Gay tourism has proved extremely successful internationally and we believe it is high time Durban expanded its marketing to specifically target this community which has a high level of disposable income”.

“The fly-in packages are especially popular”, says Vels. “For locals, the safe parking inside Gateway is a major attraction and while it’s not a formal function as such, the theme will be smart with a cocktail lounge feel about it”.

The fly-in package per person includes air tickets, accommodation at either Royal or Riverside Hotel, transfers to and from the function at Gateway, a ticket to the event, car hire from the airport for the weekend, and a ticket to uShaka Marine World. (Johannesburg R2,930 and Cape Town R4,207). There is also a self-drive package at R1,088 per person, which includes accommodation, transfer to and from the event, a ticket to the party and to uShaka Marine World.

Tickets and accommodation specials available from Carla on 083 258 6017 or 031 304 0433.
