GREAT MOSCOW CIRCUS (article first published : 2004-10-7)

The world-famous Great Moscow Circus is coming to South Africa for the first time.

Regarded as Russia’s most-famous calling card, the Great Moscow Circus is coming with a R45-million, two-and-a-half hour programme of sensational, affordable, family entertainment capturing all the thrills and fun of the circus of yesteryear, with all the skill and daring of today’s circus heroes.

Over 70 of Russia’s great Circus Stars and the cream of the International Circus World with over 100 tonnes of equipment, will perform every possible circus favourite …. acrobats, trapeze artists, clowns, balancers, horses, dogs and, of course, magnificent tigers – including a rare white tiger – showgirls and much more.

The Great Moscow Circus opens its run in the Cape Town Waterfront December 10, 2004, and will move to Johannesburg’s Montecasino late January 2005. The Circus will then undertake an extensive 20-week run throughout South Africa, visiting Pretoria, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth, East London, Bloemfontein and other centres still to be announced.

The Circus will perform in a spectacular, brand-new 2 500 seat, Red + Yellow “Big Top Tent”, air-conditioned with all-chair seating – creating a traditional European atmosphere, where the audience will never be more than 11 metres from the action!

Tickets on sale at Computicket and the run will be widely advertised. Patrons are advised to book early as the show has been sold out in London Sydney and New York. Watch this space!

Ticket prices range from R110 to R270 (R65 to R170 for children). Call 083 915 8000 or book on line www.computicket.com Performances Tuesdays to Sunday at 14h00 and 19h30 with extra performances at 17h00 and 20h00 on specific days.
