SIBAYA ON TRACK (article first published : 2004-09-5)

There are a bare ten weeks to go before Afrisun’s grand new R727 million development, Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom in Umdloti (north of Durban), swings open its doors to the public to enjoy an exciting new leisure and gaming experience in KwaZulu-Natal.

“All is on track in terms of opening the property,” says Tristan Kaatze, General Manager of Sibaya, “These last ten weeks is an exciting time as the real nature of the property starts to unfold before our eyes, and years of planning and development finally presents itself as a tangible product.”

Regular visitors to the Wild Coast Sun will remember Melville Vogel, a former General Manager of this complex. He is now Sibaya’s new GM, taking over full office at the end of the year when current GM Tristan Kaatze takes up his promotional position of Divisional Director of Sun International.

Situated just six minutes north of Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga Rocks, Sibaya is easily accessed from the M4 (coastal road) as well as the national N2 north. The R40 million interchange construction which links the northbound N2 to the Casino and the coastal road (the M4) is on schedule. This will allow visitors a quick access to the 2,200 parking facility from all directions. This includes the special undercover basement parking being provided for 600 vehicles.

All the planning for the two main restaurants – Aqua – an upmarket seafood restaurant with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean and the A2A Theatre of Food deluxe buffet – is complete and menus are in place. “This will be a major talking point for foodies.” says Kaatze “Aqua will provide a top-class seafood experience while the A2A restaurant offers an around the world dining interaction with open food stations where one can select dishes from Morocco, India, Africa and the East.”
