WOMEN OF THE YEAR AWARD (article first published : 2004-06-14)

Nominations for the 2004 Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Women of the Year Award have closed and the organisers have reported a 39% increase in the number of entries for this yearís Award.

Top calibre nominations were received from all over the country bringing the achievements of South Africaís women who also make a difference in the broader community to the fore.

A panel of judges, comprising 28 high profile South Africans, will be faced with the challenge of selecting the most exceptional women in the country and they will be announced on June 14. Two rounds of adjudication, chaired by High Court Judge Lucy Mailula, will determine the category finalists, who will be announced on July 1.

The winners, who will receive R10,000 in prize money and share the prestigious title of 2004 Shoprite Checkers/SABC 2 Women of the Year will be announced at a gala event in Cape Town at the end of the July. The Award ceremony will be broadcast on SABC2 on National Womenís Day, August 9 at 21h00.
