QUILT DONATION TO TAPE AIDS (article first published : 1999-04-15)

Formerly known as Tape Aids for the Blind, Tape Aids now reaches anyone who cannot read in the normal manner.

Its library contains everything from novels and autobiographies to children's books and study material.

Mrs F E Todd is a member of the Tape Aids Library. Her daughter, Jenny Cave, is an avid quiltmaker and belongs to a quilting group called "The Five Piece-makers" with Tessa Todd, Shirley Whelan, Anne Dorkin and Bev Essers.

As a gesture of appreciation to Tape Aids, Mrs Todd donated R120 for filling and backing and asked them to make a quilt.

This was displayed and raffled at Tape Aids and the proud and delighted winner was one of Tape Aids longest-serving volunteers Caroline Smart (D'ARTS editor).

"Caroline is one of the many volunteers without whom Tape Aids would be unable to function," says Tape Aids national director Pauline Hoffman. "We are always needing readers. It's a good way for actors and actresses to keep their voices and drama abilities in trim.

"We also need monitors and checkers - in fact anyone who is prepared to give up their time for us."

For more information on Tape Aids, contact Pauline Hoffman on 309-4800.At 17h00
