GRAHAM LANCASTER FOR LIPS (article first published : 2006-02-20)

Graham Lancaster is a big man in more ways than just his physical stature. After retiring early from industry he now runs several businesses in Pietermaritzburg including two publishing houses. He is also a prolific author with 10 books to his name. His latest novel Strength of 10 is soon to be filmed by Michael Garcia of Armageddon fame. Poems by him have also been published, and won prizes, around the world, and his debut collection Whale Song has almost sold out.

Graham Lancaster’s publishing enterprises have launched several poets who have since made names for themselves here and overseas. These include Michelle McGrane, Meryl Raw and Sharon Scott, all of whom have launched their collections at meetings of the Live Poets’ Society (LiPS) in Durban.

Graham Lancaster will present his own eclectic work which covers subjects as diverse as warfare, love and children at the next LiPS gathering. This takes place at 20h00 on February 28 in the Quarterdeck of Point Yacht Club.

Lancaster has also published a private collection entitled Gypsy. He has nominated this as the evening’s theme, so those wishing to address that peripatetic topic in poetic form are welcome to do so. Then in the Poet Pourri session those present may air their own work on any subject they wish.

All are welcome, regardless of whether they write poetry. Entry is free and there is no subscription fee, although contributions towards expenses are welcome. There is a cash bar and guarded parking at R5. For more details contact Brett Beiles on 082 516 0517 or 031 266 4762 (a/h).
