START WRITING, KEEP WRITING (article first published : 2005-10-11)

Well-known freelance journalist and columnist David Basckin will instruct a creative writing workshop in Durban at Clifton College, 102 Lambert Road, Morningside, on October 29.

The workshop is called Start Writing, Keep Writing and is intended for beginners, working writers who suffer from writers’ block and people who wish to develop their own creativity.

David Basckin is a former lecturer in Psychology a published writer of short stories and a filmmaker. He is highly experienced in small group teaching and is committed to getting the best out of everyone who attends his course.

“The workshop consists of a series of events, each designed to provide skills transfer, feedback and a strong sense of fun and achievement,” says David. “These will include topics such as writing on demand, character development, writing about place and landscape, private writing such as keeping a diary, and strategies to sustain coherence and clarity.”

The cost will be R300 per person and the workshop is limited to 20 people over the age of 18. Advance booking is essential.
