AGENDA (article first published : 2005-03-21)

After much brainstorming and burning the midnight oil, Agenda has announced its brand new community orientated website at www.agenda.org.za

The new site is interactive and fun and will provide readers with all the information they need, as well as offering free space to showcase work or discuss the work of others:

There are various sections: Online Community; Journal; Writing Programme; Radio Programme, and Internship Programme.

Online Community: a free space to publish prose, poetry, artwork and photography. A discussion forum has been added where readers can chat to friends and colleagues and even comment on the work of other submitters. Feel free to express yourself at http://www.agenda.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=151&Itemid=128

Journal: creates an important space for women to publish their own ideas, and for women who have never had their work published to do so. Four themed issues of the journal are published each year. This year’s themes are: African Feminisms Volume 2, Body Image, Beijing +10, Women in Leadership, and Domestic Violence. You can find these journals online as published and back issues are available: http://www.agenda.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=72

Writing Programme: a newly-introduced programme concentrates on mentoring 24 new writers in analytical writing skills each year. The programme is unique because of its dynamic and participatory approach to teaching and learning: http://www.agenda.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=74

Radio Programme: working with 38 community radio stations and Radio Ukhozi, South African largest daily commercial radio station, Agenda makes a contribution to keeping women informed by providing weekly written gender news. The weekly broadcasts are translated into Zulu, Xhosa and Sotho and provide women and communities generally with information they can use to translate into actions which contribute towards day-to-day improvements in their quality of life: http://www.agenda.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=73

Internship Programme: in its eighth year, the journal internship programme has proven to be successful and influential. Each year three aspiring journalists join the Agenda team to acquire hand-on-experience in the media industry: http://www.agenda.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=56&Itemid=84

This site is still being developed and feedback is welcomed. For further information e-mail: info@agenda.org.za
