DOLL PROJECT (article first published : 2004-09-12)

On September 15 at 17h30, The Doll Project Exhibition (Bonolo Botshelo - Fragile Life) will open at the Unisa Art Gallery in Pretoria. This exhibition features a number of doll presentations, two-dimensional artworks and an angel exhibition.

In order to arouse public awareness this collaborative art exhibition has been organised as a protest against child rape and abuse.

Mary Jane Hooper and Anne-Marie Moore have led a group of female artists to reflect their interpretations of this crime by creating dolls. The exhibition, which is curated by Gordon Froud, includes artists Chris Diedericks, Toni-Ann Ballenden, John Moore and Judith Mason.

The two-dimensional artworks and the angel exhibition artworks will be for sale. Proceeds will be donated to the Teddy Bear Clinic. Sensitive tours by staff members of the Teddy Bear Clinic will be conducted.

The exhibition will close on October 29. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 10h00 to 16h00.

Launched at the opening will be Anne-Marie Moore’s book titled Tainted Angels. A response to the art exhibition and child abuse, it deals with the subject of abuse sensitively and is illustrated by Anne-Marie as well as the designer, Chris Diedericks.

Tainted Angels sells for R120 not including postage. To order contact Anne-Marie Moore at dmoore@iafrica.com or visit www.unisa.ac.za/dept/arts/gallery.html
